WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

The Eco-Friendly Mobile Farm Stand Project works with and empowers urban farms to create an environmentally and economically sustainable, hyper-local, produce delivery/distribution system -- all accomplished without the use of expensive gasoline and emitting harmful pollution into the local neighborhood air.

THE TRIPLE IMPACT OF A VEHICLE ADOPTION

  • Provide locally grown fresh produce and nutrition education to those in need

  • Support local urban farmers by giving them a tool that helps them reach more people and saves them from having to spend funds on expensive gasoline

  • Do something good for the environment and local air quality

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Providing those in need with healthy, fresh vegetables and fruit can be as simple as going from A to B.  According to a report prepared for Congress by the Economic Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture, about 2.3 million people (or 2.2 percent of all US households) live more than one mile away from a supermarket and do not own a car.

In urban areas, access to public transportation may help residents overcome the difficulties posed by distance, but economic forces have driven grocery stores out of many cities in recent years, making them so few and far between that an individual’s food shopping trip may require taking several buses or trains. That's where the Eco-Friendly Mobile Farm Stand comes in. No gas, no emissions, eco-friendly delivery from local urban farms to schools, churches, parks, neighborhoods, senior living facilities and housing communities in areas experiencing food insecurity.
